This Pandemic

This work is an animated digital text that I wrote and built during the first few months of the pandemic. I started writing it as a way to make sense of what was going on around me. I was thinking about the disconnect between how pandemics are portrayed by Hollywood and the often mundane realities we experienced during the isolation period: like toilet paper shortages. Contrasting my isolation angst knowing that all over the world, families were losing loved ones and others were struggling to breathe. Perhaps the biggest disconnect of all is that the heroes and heroines that emerged from this pandemic were caregivers–members of a profession that is typically underpaid and underappreciated. I made this because I wanted us to remember. This video was screened at The Eastside Culture Crawl in 2021.
